The book follows the climactic War of the Ring, the destruction of the One Ring, and the restoration of Aragorn as King of Gondor and concludes The Lord of the Rings with the destruction of the One Ring, Aragorn’s coronation, and the bittersweet departure of Frodo and others to the Undying Lands. It is both a war epic and a meditation on renewal, sacrifice, and the passing of an age.
