It argues that Africa’s greatest obstacle is not Europe or colonialism, but Africa’s own leaders and elites who perpetuate corruption, mismanagement, and inequality. The book is a direct counterpoint to shifting the blame inward. Tribalism, kleptocracy and weak institutions are identified as root causes of underdevelopment.
